Volunteer Program

Circle of Hope could not operate without the assistance of volunteers.  Volunteer’s assist staff in providing many direct and indirect services to victims of abuse.  Circle of Hope encourages formerly battered women to participate in all volunteer aspects.

Volunteers working directly with the program participants are considered Direct Service Volunteers.  Volunteers perform duties that benefit Circle of Hope services and program participants without having contact with the program participants are considered Indirect Service Volunteers.

Direct Service Volunteer Opportunities

Hotline Coverage
This position involves telephone crisis intervention and referrals to victims of abuse.
 
Shelter Program
This position involves providing assistance to shelter staff members and performing tasks as assigned.  Shelter duties include, but are not limited to, answering telephones, crisis intervention, grocery shopping, intake procedures, making files, transporting victims to appointments or recreational outings, etc.

Legal Advocacy Program
This position involves face-to-face contact with those in need of court advocacy.  Duties include, but are not limited to, providing support to victims during the process of obtaining an ex-parte Temporary Protective Order and/or the 12 month order and court watching to document how domestic violence cases are handled in State court.

Prevention Program
This position includes assisting the Education/Outreach Coordinator with school presentations.  A curriculum is presented to grades K-12 in order to educate students about healthy expression of feeling, self-esteem issues, and dating/domestic violence.

Mentor/After-Care Program
This position involves assisting staff with consistent and in-depth follow-up care to women and their children receiving services:  Working one-on-one with participant as mentor, role model, sounding board, and cheerleader.  Providing ongoing emotional support, personal advocacy, and information and referrals.

Children’s Program
This position includes assisting the Child Advocate with children’s support groups, childcare while program participants attend appointments, and mentoring children in the residential program.

Indirect Service Volunteer Opportunities

Thrift Store Volunteer
The volunteer, under the supervision of the Thrift Store Coordinator, may do any/all of the following: cash register operations; sorting, pricing and display of donations; customer service; donation pick-up; and advertising. 

Administrative Work
This position includes assisting Circle of Hope staff with filing, shredding of documents, organizing the staff workroom, and assisting with projects.

Building and/or Grounds Maintenance
This position includes assisting in the general maintenance of the shelter and/or grounds, such as repairing appliances, yard work, painting and carpentry. 

Internship

Internships include duties in all agency programs in order to provide knowledge to those learning about domestic violence and domestic violence shelters.
